Jake Utsey’s trip to Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad) in 1994 and 1995 was made just a few years after the Soviet Union had been broken up - when the battlefields of Stalingrad opened to all those interested in the bloodiest fighting in the history of mankind. The human bones of German soldiers, the bones of the horses that they had eaten and ammunition from both sides were still visible everywhere. Only in the middle of 90s, the excavation works started to exhume the majority of German remains, war graves and cemeteries established during the action under Stalingrad in 1942-1943. But in spite of this, the traces of the Battle of Stalingrad can be seen nowadays. Welcome to Stalingrad world!
